The Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, Jameel Ahmed, recently announced that the country is preparing to redesign all currency notes. During a press conference, he revealed that an official application has been submitted to the cabinet of the Government of Pakistan for approval. The new currency designs are expected to be implemented starting from June 2025 or shortly thereafter.
Gradual Implementation of New Currency Designs
Governor Jameel Ahmed emphasized that the transition will be carried out in phases, meaning all currency notes will not be redesigned at once. However, specific details regarding which denomination will be updated first have not been disclosed yet.
Advanced Security Features in New Notes
Security Paper Limited, a key supplier of printing materials for Pakistani currency, recently mentioned that new printing machines are required to produce the redesigned banknotes. These machines, which will ensure enhanced security features, have not yet been purchased. This development suggests that the release of new currency notes may face potential delays.
